Art Blog- "Trumpet"and "Relaxed" by Marcus McCoy

Marcus McCoy is a 22 year old artist from the Southside of Chicago. He loved art as a child. Mr. McCoy's father is his major influence in deciding to follow art. He always encouraged Marcus and his brothers to be creative growing up. Marcus has many different artistic styles. He does art with paintings, photography, portraits, and many more. Marcus mostly does art for profit, he does artwork on shirts, canvas, shoes, and many other media. Although, he uses art for a profit, he loves art in every aspect of it.
One picture I chose of Mr. McCoy's is the picture of Duke Ellington. I asked Marcus two questions about this piece. The questions were what was his thought process in creating the selected artwork and what medium did I use for each one? he replied saying " The work titled "Trumpet" is a sepia esque piece of Duke Ellington playing the trumpet. The medium used was mylar on wax paper. The piece was a class assignment where we had to use this particular medium as well. I picked this photo to recreate because it had a vintage look to it and I thought it would look perfect in this type of medium. Also, Im a fan of jazz and appreciate the music of black jazz musicians such as Duke Ellington."
The second picture I chose is the picture of a woman relaxing. I asked him the same questions. He replied "The work titled "Relaxed" is a black and white piece of a lady sitting on a straw chair. The medium used was scratchboard. The piece was a class assignment where we had to use scratchboard as the medium and I picked the photo of the lady because I loved the detail in the straw chair as well as the shadows of the whole photo."
I chose these two pieces because the title represent the picture. I also chose these pictures because they appealed to me in a soothing way. I love the way that both pictures has no mistakes. The way in which the pictures are painted looks almost as a photograph. His brushwork is well done and you can tell it was done with patience.
Marcus McCoy stands out as a unknown artist, he has what it takes to be famous and well-known across the world. i can say that he will not be unknown for long.
