What is Beauty?

By Lisa McIntosh

Beauty is an emotion. But what emotion could this be? That is the subjective part. To me beauty evokes warmth, love, compassion, desires; all things we crave. All positive emotions that prove to change lives, change feelings and change perceptions. However, beauty can also develop negative feelings; feelings like jealousy, envy, obsession, and loneliness. But what determines which emotions beauty evokes in you?
Personal perceptions of beauty often depend on the experience in life in which you learn beauty. Those who associate beauty with negative experiences, like those in which you covet beauty, often perceive this notion with negativity. Beauty inhibits happiness with onesself and portrays it as an aspect a person wishes they had but somehow feel they don’t. Everyone deserves to experience beauty in its true form; positive emotions and desires.
To know the positive aspects of beauty, is advantageous. It teaches us the appreciation that beautiful things deserve. Beauty is a part of creation and an attribute of creativity. Beauty takes passion, strength, and time; all of which test human capacity. It is a pleasure to recognize beauty- one I thank God for everyday.
